Blog About Nothing Much

Well, I don't have any new material to post yet this week so I will craft something. Our auction for the laser ended on Saturday with an ending bid of $405.00! Not bad. I think it sold to Thailand which is new territory for us. We also had our first sale to France this week. Pretty exciting! We've been selling internationally for a little while now but because of the nature of what we sell, it's been mostly to Canada. It's fun to sell to new places.

Our eBay store is looking good. We picked up a lot of useful information at eBay Live and we have enjoyed making many improvements. Traffic has picked up a good deal too.

We invite you to come check out our eBay store Electrical Surplus Salvage

Buying a Used or Surplus Transformer

Here is a list of a few things to remember when purchasing a used or surplus transformer:
First, make sure that the unit is one that suits your application. If you're not sure, just ask! A reputable dealer would be happy to answer any questions and steer you in the right direction.
A transformer is an electrical device that is used to change voltage and amperage. It does not generate power.
In addition to pictures of the outside of the unit, ask to see photos of the coil and the core inside the transformer. The core and the coil rust much faster than the sheet metal on the outside. Some rust on the outside of the unit does not inhibit the functionality of the transformer and photos of the inside also lets you see if the unit is copper or aluminum. We typically only post one or two photos of transformers to keep our listing fees down but we are happy to send as many pictures as necessary to a potential buyer so they feel comfortable that they are getting what they pay for.
Lastly, consider the size of the transformer and the cost of shipping . These items are very heavy and are almost always shipped by freight carrier. Make sure that the seller knows how to properly pack and secure the transformer before shipping.

Digital Measuring Acculaser

This digital measuring machine is a Rank Precision Ind., Model 100, Acculaser. It contains a computer port, and is capable of adjustable heights for V-blocks. The fuse from this unit has gone bad. I replaced it with another to show that the unit is still functioning correctly, but I would recommend changing it out. Manufactured in December 1981 Serial # 169 Volts 115 Amps .75 Hertz 50/60

A Guide to Buying Used and Surplus New MCC Buckets

When purchasing MCC Buckets, one should make sure that they know exactly what they need. Surplus Salvage only sells buckets with a door and hinges. This sets us apart from many other sellers who only offer the bucket in the initial sale and charge extra for the bucket door, the hinges to connect the door, and the shelves to support the bucket. If a person is repairing an older, broken unit they may only need the bucket, but if a bucket is being installed for a new run, all the gear is necessary. My advice is to check with the dealer and make sure you are getting everything you need to complete your job. A bucket installed without a door would not be up to code.
